The challenge

Pebble's users needed one place to see income, spending, and rewards on their phone. The app had to make transactions easy to find, sign people in without friction from email links, and let them redeem rewards without leaving the app.

Collaboration

I joined Pebble as a React Native developer on a short contract and shipped the core app surfaces: the home dashboard, transactions, authentication, rewards, and profile.

From discovery to production

  • A home dashboard with income, spending, and transaction insights
  • A transactions list with search, filters, and detailed views
  • Sign-in and password-reset flows that open the app through deep links
  • Reward redemption and user profile management

How it was solved

One React Native codebase for iOS and Android. The dashboard, transactions, rewards, and profile read from the backend APIs. Auth emails use deep links, so a sign-in or password-reset link lands the user on the right screen in the app instead of a browser page.

Key technical decisions

  • 01React Native so iOS and Android shipped from one codebase on a short timeline.
  • 02Deep links for sign-in and password reset, so email flows finish inside the app.
  • 03Search and filters on the transactions list, so people find a payment without scrolling through history.

Impact

  • Users see income, spending, and insights on one home screen.
  • Transactions are searchable and filterable, with a detail view for each.
  • Email sign-in and password reset open straight into the app.

What I learned

In a finance app, the auth flow is part of the product. Deep links that land on the right screen remove the step where people give up.
